Benchmarking

The business objectives or strategic drivers for each project are different and the relative importance of performance indicators or ‘Metrics’ for each project will also be different. As a special Project Service, NAPTA has been equipped with the first in class methodology of doing Upstream E&P projects benchmarking in favour of having Top Quartile (TQ) performance for the specific project strategic driver(s) and in an apple to apple manner.

In our method, the basis for achieving TQ performance in the next NAPTA’s PDP® Phase is laid in the current PDP® Phase, and consistent with the change in activities from phase to phase. It is also the focus on Performance Indicators (Metrics) changes from phase to phase.

Benchmarking

The Objectives of TQ for Capital Projects is to improve project performance through a sustained approach of competitive target setting paired with internal and external benchmarking, aimed at delivering projects that have Top Quartile performance for its most important strategic driver (unit cost, schedule, or hydrocarbon recovery), competitiveness on secondary project drivers/metrics in line with industry average (2nd or 3rd Quartile), and no 4th Quartile outcome for any metric.

TQ for Capital E&P Projects encompasses the principles and methodology for applying the TQ Framework on Upstream capital projects and measures the ‘quality’ of projects (i.e. competitiveness) as an enabler for delivering sustained TQ performance against defined measures and metrics.
