Good Opportunity governance is important and helps to ensure that maximum value is created and captured from an opportunity, if the right people are involved, fully engaged, and if Business Managers, Business Executives and Decision Review Committees are clear on their roles and responsibilities. By applying NAPTA’s PDS®, these roles, responsibilities and behaviours expected from the Line of Sight for the Front End Development Manager (FEDM), who has the direct report business relationship with the Business Manager, can be summarised as follows:-
- FEDM typically takes the responsibility for integration in the Business Framing (FEL1) from the Exploration /Deal Leader and transitions responsibility over during the Concept Development phase to the Project Manager.
- He/she is accountable for ensuring integration technical and non-technicalrisks and uncertainties into the technical concept (Subsurface-Surface-Wells) and resultant cost, schedule and production forecast.
- This management role is responsible for implementing necessary mitigation measures into the technical concepts developed, to deliver a project that demonstrates it is externally competitive and “as good as it can be” to pass through FEL2’s gate without “open switches”.
- This management position spends the majority of time on integrating Technical Risks and responsible for the management of the technical opportunity/project team.
